Dan Bellan

About Dan Bellan

I was born December 1962 in Edmonton, Canada. I am a self-taught guitarist, and started palying at age 16. Prior to guitar, I studied piano, mainly classical and hymns. I am a self-taught composer, focusing on jazz-based and pseudo-classical traditions.

I have played usually as sideman, and sometimes, as a solo guitarist. My playing experiences range from latin quartet settings, country-folk, and freer jazz. I have done two small independent film soundtrack recordings.

My studies are limited. I have attended various workshops and clinics usually associated with local jazz festivals. I took classes briefly with Pierre Bensusan.

My main influences are: Miles, Lacy, Towner, Metheny, Gismonti, Coltrane, Rypdal, Mingus, Shorter, B.Marsalis, Dolphy, Garbarek, Holland, Evans.

I am interested in having people check out the tunes, play them, critique them, etc. Any feedback would be welcomed.

Dan can be reached at dan_bellan@mindlink.bc.ca.
