Sam got back into jazz by playing some bossa tunes from the Real Book in 1992, and has written a couple of bossa tunes. Since then he and Carla have both become avid jazz listeners and musicians. They are particularly into stuff from the mid-fifties to mid-sixties, including Jobim, Miles, Horace Silver, Diz, Trane, Herbie Hancock, Gigi Gryce and many others. Some contemporary favorites on piano are Eliane Elias, Renee Rosnes and Kenny Barron. Sam also listens to a lot of Baden Powell, Bola Sete, and other nylon-string players, as well as the guitar greats like Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Kenny Burrell, etc.
Sam was a member of the Nova Trio which has the tune "Blue Morning" (chart below) on the compilation of recordings by people who post to rec.music.bluenote (contact Marc Sabatella, who has charts here, for info).
You can also look at Sam's home page. Sam's e-mail address is: sam@bsharp.org. Carla's e-mail address is, not surprisingly, carla@bsharp.org. Contact Sam if you'd like a MIDI file of any of these tunes.
