Zdenko Ivanusic

Zdenko Ivanusic, saxophonist and composer, born in Zagreb, Croatia, has been a dynamic member of the Croatian music scene for the past ten years. He leads his own groups, and is in demand as a sideman in various ensembles and groups. His experience in so-called classical music, jazz fusion and funk form a unique approach in most musical settings, from symphonic orchestra, chamber ensembles to big band, saxophone quartet or small band. Although recognizable through his inimitable blowing style, contemporary harmonic and phrasing approach, he still owes much to tradition. As a principal alto chair in the Croatian Army Symphonic Wind Orchestra, he had chance to work with a lot of distinguished conductors such as Mladen Tarbuk, Niksa Bareza, Vjekoslav Sutej, Pavle Despalj, Miljenko Prohaska, Uros Lajovic, and Tim Reynish, which was a great experience. He's played with the Zagreb Philharmonic, Croatian Radio-TV Symphonic Orchestra, Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and Croatian Music Institute Big Band. Zdenko launched the Donna Lee Saxophone Quartet in collaboration with Andrej Henigman in 1999, and leads his own jazz combo.
