About Dennis Mitcheltree

Dennis Mitcheltree has performed with renowned jazz musicians Ronnie Mathews, Cecil Bridgewater, Clark Terry, Charli Persip, Billy Taylor and Ralph Lalama. He has toured Japan, playing saxophone with Japanese musicians Chin Suzuki and Tosh Inoue. A former student of Joe Lovano and Billy Pierce, he is now the leader of his own group.

Dennis's quartet, with Jim McNeely on piano and Bob Moses on drums, has performed for the Celebrate Brooklyn festival, opening for Slide Hampton and the Jazzmasters. His quartet has also headlined for Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) concerts, the Hot Prospects and St. Marks Park Concert Series in addition to hosting a weekly jam session at the Cornelia Street Cafe and numerous engagements at jazz clubs including the Five Spot and Visiones in New York City. His group has appeared on the live performance radio show "Around New York" in 1994 and 1995. His composition for jazz sextet and string quartet, "Suite No.1", was recently presented at Carnegie Hall.

Dennis has been a panelist for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Jazz Fellowship program and the Brooklyn Arts Council Regrant Program. He is a faculty member of the Greenwich House Music School and the Learning Place Conservatory of Music. Dennis has twice been a recipient of the Eubie Blake Award and the alternate finalist for the 1996 Evansville International Jazz Saxophone Competition. His new recording, "Brooklyn", is available on CD and cassette from dengor music.
