I'm an amateur blues and jazz performer, composer and arranger, when not prosecuting criminal cases as an Assistant Johnson County (Kansas) District Attorney. My early musical training was on piano (briefly in third and fourth grade), then baritone horn and valve trombone in elementary school, junior high school, high school and at Emporia State University. I started playing guitar in college, and after law school, marriage and two children, enrolled in jazz performance classes at the Johnson County Community College, where I played guitar in the jazz band and several jazz combos. I have also played guitar in the Olathe (Kansas) Civic and Jazz Bands, and with the stage band in Kansas Bar Association bar shows. In addition to listening to many jazz horn players, my favorite guitarists are T-Bone Walker, Duke Robillard, Ronnie Earl Horvath and Jimmy Bruno.
