introduction

Hi. I'm Sam Hokin, formerly a plasma physicist, currently an entrepeneur and programmer, and always a musician.

I was born on September 21, 1960, I'm married to Carla Shedivy, and we have two kids, Natalia and Mitchell. We're all from Wisconsin, and live in Madison.

My "straight job" is Partner and Senior Developer at IMS, where I write Internet applications including database-driven Web sites and Java client-server apps.

Before becoming a professional programmer, I was a plasma physicist, most recently at the Fusion Plasma Physics Division of the Alfvén lab at KTH (The Royal Institute of Technology) in Stockholm; before that I was an assistant professor in the Department of Physics in the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The navigation bar on the left takes you through my home site. However, I run two other sites on Bsharp.org which I link separately here:

Original Jazz Charts on the Web is a repository of original jazz compositions that I maintain, which you should check out if you are a musician.

The Physics of Everyday Stuff is my work in progress which explains the fundamental physics behind things we see in everyday life. It needs many more chapters - if you have an idea, please let me know!
