the nova trio

The Nova Trio was an acoustic jazz group in Madison, Wisconsin with Connie McElrone on vocals, Sargie Goode on percussion and Sam Hokin on guitar.

The trio played a mix of bossa nova standards, original tunes written by Sam and/or his wife Carla Shedivy, and swing and ballad standards.

We have a bossa tune, "Blue Morning", that Carla and I wrote, on the rec.music.bluenote sampler CD. The chart for the full tune can be found here. If you are running Netscape with a plug-in that handles the audio/midi MIME type, you are listening to it right now.

If you're too impatient or cheap to buy the CD (it's only $6 or something) you can get a fragment or MPEG compressed versions here:

  • a short WAV fragment (1.1 MB, 12 seconds)
  • the entire song in CD-quality stereo MPEG-3 format (2.9 MB). You might want this Windows 95 MPEG-3 sound player.
  • the entire song in CD-quality stereo MPEG-2 format (3.3 MB). It can be played under Windows 95 with, for example, Cool Edit 96.
